The Barossa Wine Show handed over two cheques, each for $1000, last week to benefit the wine programs at Faith Lutheran and Nuriootpa High School.
The money was raised through wine auctions at the awards presentation dinner of last year’s wine show.
Amazingly, in the past 10 years the Barossa Wine Show has raised more than $90,000 for the school wine programs, the Barossa Vintage Festival Young Ambassador program and the Track4 youth project.
“We are hopeful that we can raise another $8000-$10,000 at the next show in September to take the total to more than $100,000,” said Kevin Glastonbury, representing the Wine Show committee.
The latest $1000 gift to each school takes the total to $28,000 for both wine education programs.
Mr Glastonbury said the wine show auctions are a “bit of fun” and rely on the generosity of community minded people.
“We hope to generate a large sum again this year to help the schools to purchase things like crushers and presses,” Mr Glastonbury said.
“Things like a bag press that Faith are hoping to buy this year.”
Bob Mitchell, from the Faith Wine Education program said the Wine Show support is terrific.
“It has enabled our students to use small scale industry equipment,” Mr Mitchell said.
This year’s Barossa Wine Show judging will take place in the third week of September and the awards dinner will be held on Thursday, September 18.
