The Barossa Light and Gawler Netball Association was well represented at the Country Carnival Championships in Adelaide on the weekend.

And despite it being a lean year for finals success, with no teams making it through to a grand final playoff, there were still a number of positives.

The only BL&G team not to make the finals was the A grade side.

All others - including B grade, 17 and under, 15 and under and 13 and under teams - made a finals appearance.

The 15 and under team went through the entire carnival undefeated but due to the scoring system were not one of the biggest percentage winners to advance further in finals.

Anne Muster, BL&GNA Country Championship co-ordinator, congratulated all players, coaches and umpires on their achievements and for their commitment to the association.

A grade coach, Lee-Anne Cummins, said the carnival really showcased the talented pool of players from the BL&G association.

Particularly the younger players who are possibly the foundation of future senior teams.

While filling the A grade team proved challenging again this year, the association has introduced an incentive for next year to hopefully entice more players to become part of the association team.

“We had a core group of keen girls this year it was just hard to find others to make up the numbers,” Lee-Ann said.

“Previously A grade players had to pay a fee to play association netball but this fee will be waived from now on.”
