It is with a mixture of astonishment and dismay that I have read of proposals to remove obstetric and surgical facilities from the Kapunda Hospital.
This facility and its excellent doctors and staff have been of great benefit and comfort to me and my family over the years, as well as to countless other sick people and accident victims.
I had assumed that if millions of dollars was available to upgrade sporting facilities then all our hospitals and schools and roads would obviously have to be in tip-top shape, and certainly not required to give up services and facilities.
What a surprise to find that we in Kapunda must lose funding to pay for a sporting upgrade to a facility few of us will ever use.
What dismay to find that those of us in distress and pain or accident victims will have to travel to Gawler to get some sort of treatment.
What stupidity on the part of a government too ready to ignore its proper role and responsibilities and chase the populist vote.
