Waste survey

16/09/2008 6:44:00 PM
I decided to do a survey around my neighbourhood on “green bin waste recycling” day to see how many households were using the recycling green bin waste system.

My survey took into account the residences in Rudall, McKinlay, Mortimer and Duffield streets in Gawler East.

Out of 90 houses and 21 units there was a total of 16 green bins at the kerbside.

That represents a 14.41 per cent of residences using the green bin waste recycling system.

There was considerable evidence of green vegetation hanging out of the household waste bins, however.

If these statistics are extrapolated for the rest of the Gawler area, I can only comment that it represents a near complete failure of the system of “user pays” for the green waste recycling system introduced by the Gawler Council under the watch of Mayor Brian Sambell.
